Farm Animal Veterinarian: Sheep, Goats, and Pigs

Vets are easy to find when you have a traditional pet, like a cat or dog. However, when it comes to farm animals, you may have a hard time trying to find a sheep veterinarian, goat veterinarian, or pig veterinarian. Most vets don't specialize in these areas of veterinary medicine. Farm animals need unique care to stay healthy. At Hodges Animal Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, our veterinarian specializes in caring for farm animals and will provide care for your sheep, goat, pig, rabbit, or chicken. We can also guide you on how to care for your animals and keep them healthy.

Wellness Visits

Our vet provides wellness appointments. During these visits, our vet checks your farm animal's physical health for any possible issues. Our vet will check your animal's legs and other body parts for any signs of issues.

Part of the visit also includes getting your animal weighed. Sometimes, other tests are run as well.

At the wellness visit, our vet may recommend lifestyle changes. If your animal has any chronic health conditions, we'll provide treatment to manage them. Additionally, if an animal already has a health condition, we can reevaluate treatment to make sure your animal receives the ideal treatment for its condition.

Wellness visits are an excellent time to make sure your pet is updated on all of its vaccinations. It's also a time when you can ask our veterinarian any questions you have about taking care of your animal, including nutritional needs. That way, you can provide it with the best care possible.

Our veterinarian specializes in caring for a variety of farm animals. We provide both wellness and sick visits, and even can come to you, since it's not so easy to transport farm animals.

Sick Visits

Unfortunately, even healthy animals get sick now and then. Our vet can thoroughly evaluate your pet and determine what the problem is. Our vet may prescribe a medication to treat the problem. For instance, if the animal has an infection, our vet may prescribe an antibiotic to treat it.

Besides medication, our vet will also provide you with advice on how to make your pet comfortable and feel its best while recovering.

Injuries

Injuries are another issue our farm animal veterinarian can address. For example, if your animal should happen to break a leg, our vet can provide care to help it heal and recover. We know that every animal requires unique care, so we will do whatever we can to help your pet heal.
